The battery chemicals industry experienced strong growth in recent years because of increasing electric vehicle and renewable energy requirements. The industry faces ongoing difficulties because raw material production and availability are concentrated in certain locations, and some chemicals create environmental issues. The Chinese industry controls 85% of global graphite anode material production for lithium batteries. Epsilon Advanced Materials intends to build two substantial 30,000-ton-per-annum capacity plants in the US and India to address the market’s needs. These facilities represent the first significant anode manufacturing sites beyond China’s borders as part of a major diversification strategy.
The manufacturing industry faces dual challenges from N-Methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) health concerns and the search for NMP-free manufacturing alternatives to create safer and more sustainable battery electrodes.
